The "overlooked" PDF Print E-mail

Today, while reading the book of Acts, the following verse caught my attention:

(Act 17:30 ESV) The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent,

Now before getting into what struck me to focus on this particular verse, some background. Paul is at this time travelling around spreading God's Word. The location for this particular group of verses is Athens, Greece. The Athens that was the epicenter for education and philosophy. Home to some of the real heavy-hitters: Sophocles, Socrates, Plato. So now we have Paul standing in theĀ Areopagus enlightening the Athenians on their ignorance!

I love progressive rock and metal music. I have ever since the first time I heard Dream Theater, although I didn't know what the music genre was at the time, I just lumped it in with "heavy metal". And I had always liked bands like Yes and Genesis, although I hadn't been exposed to their more "progressive" music via classic rock radio. Anyway, the point is, prog is hands down my favorite genre of music.

School's out for summer! PDF Print E-mail

Yesterday was Austin's last day of school for the year! Not sure what we're going to do to celebrate yet, maybe a trip to Monkey Joe's or something. Although Austin, just like his dad, has been quite involved with a "new" game we got at Big Lots. The game is Space Empires V... nice!

Sheri got the boys enrolled in a reading thing at the library. Supposedly they can win some pretty neat prizes for acheiving certain amounts of reading. Cool way to keep kids motivated to read. Both Austin and Wes do enjoy books, so I expect they will do well. Austin is a bit pickier about what he reads, but when he finds a book he enjoys he'll spend a lot of time reading.

The biggest challenge this summer will be keeping the boys from killing each other! They are at ages where each one likes to drive the other crazy in different ways. Time to polish up on our skills from working at Thornwell!

Is Revelation really the end? PDF Print E-mail

Today at church a new series was started. It corresponds with vacation Bible school. And this week's sermon was "Book of Books". It was essentially a question and answer format. The questions were general questions people may have about the validity of the Bible. This is important of course, since if you do not believeĀ that the Bible is God's inerrant, infallible and inspired word than it is awfully tough to progress as a Christian in a relationship with God.

In every Bible I've ever picked up, Revelation is the last book. But last night when our pastor asked me about some questions that were stumbling blocks to accepting the Bible as God's word it made me think of three things immediately. The item I am still thinking about today is this: why did God stop inspiring people to write His word 2000 years ago?

Baptism PDF Print E-mail

On April 26, 2009 I was baptized! I'm not going to retell what I said then, but it has been an amazing journey. I've spent most of my life turning from God; running from Him. I've flat out denied God's existence. But, God did not simply let me go, He wants me to spend forever with Him, as He does all of us. I am so thankful and blessed to have the people in my life that God has placed there: believers and non-believers. I absolutely believe God has used all of them to bring me home!
